Play B C Preschool believes that all children have the right to broad and balanced learning experiences and is fully committed to inclusion for all. We provide a positive and welcoming environment where children are supported according to their individual and unique needs. We are committed to working with any child who has an additional need and their family to enable them to make full use of the preschool facilities and reach their full potential.
There is a graduated response to additional needs as set out in the SEN Code of Practice. There is a high level of expertise among the team, which has been enriched by working with children with a variety of needs such as diabetes, autistic spectrum disorders and Down’s syndrome.
Where a child has additional needs, it is important to find out as much as possible about those needs, any way that they may affect early learning or care needs and any extra help required by:
- Liaising with families
- Liaising with professional agencies
- Reading any reports that have been prepared
- Attending any review meetings with the local authority or other professionals
- Observing development and monitoring such observations regularly.
We work closely with parents, the area SENCo and other relevant professionals to support children. Support plans are drawn up for children needing provision above and beyond what we usually provide, which are reviewed each half term. They set out both long term and short term SMART objectives, the provision and frequency of any activities to be put in place to support the achievement of those objectives and who is responsible for any given actions. Support plans are shared and reviewed with parents at least half termly.
Sutton Borough have compiled a ‘Local Offer’ which is one stop shop of services and support that they expect to be available to children and young people from the age of 0 to 25 years with special educational needs or a disability and their parents and carers. You can find out more about this on their website
